Background: Earlscliffe is an independent college that offers university preparation for 15 to 19 year olds from all over the world. With approximately 110 international boarding students, spread across 6 buildings used as classrooms and accommodation, Red Dragon IT caters for all the college’s IT needs, and have worked with the college as the business has grown and therefore their I.T. Network has expanded.
Network Segregation & Safeguarding: Naturally one of the most prominent concerns for the heads/directors with the education sector is student safety, and particularly so in the age of the internet. Red Dragon I.T. have worked with Earlscliffe College to give them the following flexibility within their I.T. Network.
Office server: there is just one server, but with segregated access for students and staff.
Web Content filtering: enabled to prevent students from accessing certain websites.
Wi-Fi: restrictive access/use of the internet during selected hours of the day/week.
Email & Office 365: As a college with international students and staff, accessing their emails when they were back home during holidays was causing problems because they were on a local email exchange server. Since moving to Microsoft Office 365 over a year ago, they are not reliant on local network connectivity and can access their emails anywhere in the world.
Phone System: RDIT have also implemented a cloud-based phone system (3CX VoIP), so their internal comms are all local. The school needed a flexible phone system that would allow them to make cost effective calls around the world in order to telephone the students’ families.
